Everyone knows, that technology shrinks everything, and digital camera technology is no exception. The small, the better . . . right? Wrong! Smaller is not necessarily better, it’s just smaller.
But, that could also be said of the the real world as well. When looking for the best digital camera store, the smart consumer will leverage both the world of bricks and the world of clicks to get true value for their dollar.
The first of course would be to just ignore the latest and greatest products and sales. That certainly is simple. And for those who are willing to settle for the best digital camera from last week, month or year, that’s fine.
Online is a great place for price comparison shopping. There are literally hundreds of sites, that do nothing buy compare prices for every make and model of digital camera available. Armed with these prices the informed consumer has a definite advantage when they visit their local digital camera store.
But, the internet can’t give you everything you need in your search for the perfect digital camera. Specifically and most importantly, you can’t pick up and hold a digital camera without actually going to a real world store.
Holding a camera in your hands, and getting a good feel for the weight, the look, and the controls can only be done in person. Take a few pictures (inside and outside) while your at it, just for good measure.
I personally like the idea of taking your own memory cards with you when you go. That way, you can take your pictures home with you, print them out, load them up on your computer, or view them on that big honkin’ HD LCD you bought yourself for Christmas.
Once you’ve done this with a few worthy cameras, you should get a pretty good idea of which camera has the best image quality. It’s nice to be able to make that comparison without the pressure of a salesperson looking over your shoulder.
Of course, the best small digital cameras will have good LCD screens, good durability, and good control button layouts. Especially important in smaller cameras. A couple of other good models to consider would be anything from the Nikon Coolpix line like the P5100, or the Sony CyberShot DSCW55.
