Choosing A Roofing Contractor

Clark Howard, who is a professional consumer advocate, has warned many consumers about the dangers of doing business with a company who is not legitimate. You can face lawsuits and pay out thousands of dollars by dealing with the wrong contractor. Take the time to evaluate each company based on their merits.

The process for choosing a company may be tedious. There are companies such as Home Reports that have done the home work for you. These companies evaluate a roofing contractor on many different levels and if the company does not make the cut, then they will not be in the directory.

The company should present to you an estimate that is professional and on company letter head. Do not do business with a company that operates from their home. This is a lack of professionalism on their for any company doing service work should have a proper place of business. They should be located at their present address for at least 24 months.

The contractor should not have any claims pending against them in the court of law. Check the background of any company that you are considering for roofing services. It is not a good idea to engage in business without doing your due diligence.

A company that is creditable will have an association with the Better Business Bureau. They should have a great track record for at least the past 10 years of business. This doesn’t mean that there want be any complaints, but more importantly is how the complaint was resolved.

The final thing to consider is if the company you are dealing with is properly insured. There are many drawbacks to dealing with a company who is not properly covered. You as the property owner are responsible for anyone who gets injured on your property. Liability for a company that is uninsured is a chance I advise against.
